why Clover Code
Editor and model, installed together
Editor extensions such as Cline and Kilo Code expect you to run the model yourself, and self-hosted platforms such as Tabby hand you software to operate. Clover Code installs the editor and the model together in your account, and Clover Tech keeps both current through signed upgrades your team applies.
Clover Tech favors models and components licensed under Apache 2.0 or MIT.

Five phases, in this order
Until phase 1 ships, prompts to bundled models pass through a gateway Clover Tech hosts. Ask us for current timing.

Open models and the gateway
Cline for chat and agents, on Devstral Small 2 by default, a choice of open models, and the model gateway moved into your account. Token usage is recorded from the start, as counts and metadata without prompt text.

Frontier models and agent controls
Claude and other frontier models through Amazon Bedrock over a private endpoint, repository context, and agent identities, kill switches and network allowlists on the AI Cloud server, with each agent’s status shown in the editor.

Desktop VS Code
The same assistant in desktop VS Code through an SSO-protected endpoint, with no API keys stored on laptops. JetBrains support follows customer demand.

Which extensions can we install?
Extensions from the Open VSX registry. Microsoft’s marketplace terms limit its extensions to Microsoft’s own products, so extensions such as Copilot Chat do not run in browser VS Code. Desktop VS Code, in phase 3, can use Microsoft’s marketplace.
Which coding models?
Open-weight models chosen against their license terms. The 123B Devstral 2 needs a commercial license above $20 million in monthly revenue, so larger companies run Devstral Small 2, which is Apache 2.0, or license Devstral 2 from Mistral.
Can developers use Claude?
Yes, on your own vendor key today, and that traffic goes to the vendor. Claude through Amazon Bedrock in your account arrives in phase 2.
